How to correct a mistake in your pilot logbook

The accepted way to fix an entry in a paper or digital logbook, and what to do when totals do not add up.

The short answer

On paper, draw one clean line through the wrong figure so it stays readable, write the correct one beside it, and initial it. Never use correction fluid and never remove pages. In a digital logbook, edit the entry and keep a record of the change.

When a total is wrong

Find the page where the running total first goes wrong, correct that page, and carry the corrected figure forward. Note the correction in remarks so the next reader understands the jump.

Signed entries

Entries signed by an instructor or examiner should not be changed without them. Ask them to initial the correction, or add a note in remarks.
