The EASA night rating: requirements and hours

What it takes to add night flying privileges to a PPL or LAPL under EASA FCL.810, and how to log the training.

The short answer

For aeroplanes, the night rating takes theoretical knowledge instruction and at least 5 hours of night flying: 3 hours of dual instruction, including at least 1 hour of cross country navigation with one dual cross country of at least 50 km (27 NM), and 5 solo takeoffs and 5 solo full stop landings.

How to log it

• Night time in the night column, as part of the total
• Dual night hours in the dual column, with the instructor's signature
• Solo landings counted as night landings, one per full stop landing
