Your first EASA class 2 medical: what to expect

Who can examine you, what the initial examination covers, what to bring, and when to book it in your training.

The short answer

An initial class 2 medical is done by an aeromedical examiner (AME) or at an aeromedical centre. Book it before you fly solo, ideally before you pay for much training, since you need it to fly solo and it tells you early whether anything needs attention.

What the examination covers

• Medical history questionnaire
• General physical examination, blood pressure and urine test
• Eyesight, including colour vision
• Hearing
• An ECG, which for class 2 is first required at the examination after your 40th birthday

What to bring

Photo ID, glasses or contact lenses if you wear them, and any reports about existing conditions or medication. Being open about your history makes the process faster, not slower.
